Welcome Letter
Dear Colleagues,
Precision immunotherapy for severe infections has been a slowly evolving concept over the years. The COVID-19 pandemic shed light on the importance of immunotherapy to improve outcomes, and drugs like anakinra and tocilizumab were approved for severe patients both in Europe and in the United States. The European Union has funded, through the Horizon 2020 program, three big consortia, ImmunoSep, HAP2, and HDM-FUN to investigate the precise settings in which immunotherapy may improve the outcomes of hospital-acquired pneumonia, candidemia, and sepsis. These three consortia bring together their experience and along with a great panel of international experts organize the first International Conference on Immunotherapy of Severe Infections. We wish that this is the first meeting of many more to come and that expanding knowledge will lead to better outcomes for our patients.
On behalf of the organizers,
Mihai G. Netea, Evangelos J. Giamarellos-Bourboulis, Antoine Roquilly, Frank van de Veerdonk
